The Quest for Smaller Pores

The Quest for Smaller Pores

Enlarged pores can be caused by a number of different factors, often making it feel as though it would be impossible to actually shrink those pores. Fortunately, there are a number of different methods that you can try, both at home and by visiting a professional.

Clean Skin
Keeping your face clean is absolutely key when it comes to minimizing pores, as dirt and oil only cause pores to expand. In addition to using a gentle cleanser each and every night without fail, you should also avoid touching your face with your fingers during the day, and be sure to always use clean makeup brushes, as both of these will only transfer dirt and bacteria into your pores.

Regular Extractions and Facials
While keeping your skin clean and well-exfoliated will go a long way in reducing the appearance of your pores, regularly visiting your dermatologist for a couple of specific skin treatments will help you on your quest in a massive way. An extraction and facial, as well as a chemical peel, will be able to unclog and clean out your pores in a way that you would not have been able to do at home.

While a cleanser will clear your skin of the dirt and oils that build up over the course of the day, they only cleanse the surface of your skin, and will not clear away any of the debris that has already started to sink into your pores, causing them to stretch and enlarge. This makes exfoliation crucial, as this process will slough away all of the particles that are sitting at the entrance of your pores. The amount that you need to exfoliate depends on how much your skin can handle, with some being able to exfoliate daily and others not being able to exfoliate more than twice a week without their skin turning red and raw. If exfoliating is new to you, then start off by exfoliating once or twice a week, building it up from there, and remembering to be extremely gentle with your skin, as scrubbing at it too hard will only irritate it, causing your pores to become inflamed.

Retinol Products
Retinol is a form of vitamin A, and is most known for being one of the best anti-aging ingredients out there. Retinol is able to significantly minimize the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and age-related blemishes by increasing the skin’s natural production of collagen, and this process also works to minimize the appearance of pores. Retinol also decreases the size, and production, of the oil glands on your skin, which, in turn, decreases the size of pores, as well as the amount of oil that ends up settling within them.

Trying to minimize the appearance of pores is a skin care quest that many face, but, fortunately, there are many ways in which you can go about doing this. From visiting your dermatologist for regular extractions to incorporating a retinol product into your skin care routine, by combining each of these methods, your pores will soon be barely visible at all.
